5. Agnes Patrick born in 1856 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire. She married John Lightbody on the 4th of October 1877 at 66 Cadzow Street, Hamilton. John was the brother of Robert Smith Lightbody. Two sisters married two brothers in the same year! John, like his brother, was a baker. He set up a bakery business in 1871 and rented premises in Hamilton in 1885 and this would eventually evolve into a bakery/tea room situated at 58 Cadzow Street in Hamilton. To say the business was a success would be an understatement and eventually they would operate 20 branches across Lanarkshire. The branches were still popular in the 1990's before the family decided in 1995 to sell off the company's retail outlets and concentrate on making specialist celebration cakes.  They had suffered a sharp decline in sales as supermarkets took an increasing share of the bread market, and were in no position to slug it out with them in a price war. The company’s sales plummeted from £3m a year to almost zero while it built a new cake factory on Bothwell Road, Hamilton. In 2007 the family sold out to Finsbury Food Group for £37 million.Today, Lightbody produces some 150,000 cakes a week, which it sells to former competitors The firm now enjoys annual sales of £50m and has licences to make official Harry Potter, Superman, and Spongebob Squarepants birthday cakes. The group will have a combined turnover of more than £140m, employ 2500 people, and produce half a billion cakes a year. John and Agnes would have been so proud!!
