The Waterston Family of  Hamilton, Lanarkshire

Pleated Fabric

William Waterson, a hand loom weaver,  married Helen McLaughlan in Hamilton, Lanarkshire circa 1790.

This is our oldest confirmed ancestor from a long line of Waterstons who would marry into the Haddow family and eventually the Strachan family. Little is known about William and Helen's life in Hamilton and this is due to crucial records being lost and destroyed from the local archives.

What we do know of them is that they lived and worked in Hamilton and had several children:

Peter Waterston born in Hamilton, Lanarkshire in 1792. Peter married Jane Smith in Hamilton, Lanarkshire on 23 July 1815.

They lived all of their married life at 12 Quarry Road, Hamilton. Peter died before 1850 and Jane died aged 87 on 10th December 1881 at 106 Quarry Street in Hamilton. Her nephew James Waterston signed the death certificate. He lived at 22 Duke Street Hamilton.
